Use this tool honestly: issue a fee receipt only for a fee you have actually received, with the real amount, date and student details. Making receipts for fees that were never paid, for example to claim a tax deduction or an education allowance, is fraud and can lead to penalties for both the person issuing and the person using the receipt.
Every time a parent pays a fee, they expect a receipt. Many small schools, coaching centres and tuition teachers still write these by hand in a receipt book, which is slow, easy to get wrong and hard to read later. This fee receipt generator gives you a clean, consistent fee receipt format that you fill in once and download as a PDF.
Enter the student's details, the fee period and each fee head, and the tool adds up the total and lays everything out in a proper school fee receipt format. The same form works for a college fee receipt, a coaching fee receipt or a monthly tuition fee receipt from a home tutor.
If you prefer to keep working in Office, you can also download a free fee receipt format in Word or Excel further down this page.
A fee receipt is written acknowledgement that an institution or teacher has received money towards a student's education. It tells the parent exactly what they paid for, and it gives the institution a record that matches its fee register and bank account.
Parents use fee receipts as proof of payment if there is ever a dispute, to claim tax deductions on tuition fees, to submit investment proofs to their employer, and sometimes to claim education allowances or reimbursements. Colleges and universities also ask for previous fee receipts when students transfer, apply for scholarships or request refunds. For all of these, a receipt with clear details and a proper breakup is far more useful than a handwritten slip with a single number on it.
Whether you run a school, a college department or a small tuition class, a complete fee receipt format includes the following:
Name of the school, college, coaching centre or teacher, full address, phone number and logo.
A unique serial number for every receipt and the date the payment was received.
Student's name, parent or guardian's name, class and section or course and batch, and admission or roll number.
The academic year, plus the month, quarter, term or full course the payment covers.
Separate lines for tuition fee, admission fee, transport, activity, exam, lab or library fees, with the amount against each.
The total amount received, written both as a number and in words to prevent alteration.
Cash, UPI, bank transfer, cheque, card or demand draft, with the transaction ID or cheque number.
Name and signature of the accountant, office staff or teacher who received the money, plus the institution's stamp if it has one.
Here is how a typical school fee receipt is laid out. The names and numbers are placeholders.
Notice that tuition fee is shown on its own line. That one detail saves parents a lot of trouble at tax time, as explained below.
Under the old tax regime, an individual can claim a deduction for tuition fees paid to any school, college, university or other educational institution in India for the full-time education of up to two children. The deduction sits within the overall Section 80C limit of Rs 1.5 lakh a year, shared with investments such as PF, PPF and life insurance.
Only the tuition fee qualifies. Development fees, donations, capitation fees, transport, hostel and mess charges are not covered. Fees for part-time courses and for coaching classes that are not full-time education are generally not covered either. The new tax regime does not allow this deduction at all, and section numbers are being renumbered under the Income-tax Act, 2025, so parents should confirm the current position with a Chartered Accountant.
This is why a proper fee breakup matters. If a receipt shows only a combined total, parents cannot tell how much of it is tuition, and employers checking investment proofs often reject it. Institutions that list each fee head separately make life easier for every family they serve.
Show the course, semester or year, enrolment number and fee heads such as tuition, exam, library and lab fees. Students often need these receipts for scholarships, education loans and refunds.
Coaching centres should mention the batch, course name and duration, and whether the payment is a full fee or an instalment, with the balance still due.
Home tutors and small classes can issue a simple monthly tuition fee receipt with the student name, subject, month and amount. It keeps both sides clear about what has been paid.
Services provided by an educational institution to its students, such as school education up to higher secondary and education that leads to a qualification recognised by law, are generally exempt from GST. A regular school fee receipt therefore does not usually show GST.
Private coaching, tuition classes and most skill or hobby courses are treated differently. They are usually taxable services, and a provider whose turnover crosses the GST registration threshold has to register and charge GST, typically at 18%. If you are registered, your receipt needs your GSTIN and the tax shown separately, and a GST invoice may be the better document. The rules have exceptions, so confirm your own position with a Chartered Accountant.

Templates work well if you issue a few receipts a month. If you issue many, the online generator is faster: it fills the date, numbers the receipt, totals the fee heads and writes the amount in words for you, so you avoid the alignment and calculation mistakes that creep into spreadsheets.
A fee receipt is a document an educational institution or teacher gives to a student or parent after receiving a fee payment. It records who paid, for which student, for which period and course, how much was paid under each fee head, and how the payment was made. It is the parent's proof of payment and the institution's record of the collection.
A complete school fee receipt carries the school's name, address and logo, a receipt number and date, the student's name, parent's name, class and section, admission or roll number, academic session, the fee period, a breakup of fee heads such as tuition, transport and activity fees, the total in figures and in words, the payment mode with a transaction or cheque reference, and the signature of the person who received the money.
Under the old tax regime, parents can claim tuition fees paid to a school, college or university in India for the full-time education of up to two children, within the overall Section 80C limit of Rs 1.5 lakh. Only the tuition fee component counts. Development fees, donations, transport, hostel and mess charges do not. The new tax regime does not allow this deduction, and section references change under the Income-tax Act, 2025, so confirm the current rule with a CA.
Because only the tuition fee part qualifies for the deduction, a receipt that shows one lump sum makes it hard for parents to claim the right amount. Listing tuition fee, transport, activity, exam and other heads separately helps parents file correctly and reduces queries from employers who verify investment proofs.
Yes. Home tutors, coaching institutes, music and dance classes, sports academies and hobby classes can all use it. Enter your name or institute name, the course or batch instead of a school class, and the fee period such as a month or a full course.
